The need for continuing education touches all areas of our lives. Speaker and best selling author Stephen R. Covey discussed this in his excellent book called “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” In the book he shares the story that goes something like this:
A woodcutter was working diligently to cut down a tree. Another man came across the woodcutter and asked “What are you doing?”
“Isn’t it obvious,” the woodcutter replied, “I am cutting down this tree.”
The man sat down and asked the woodcutter to take a break and sharpen his saw since he looked extremely tired. The woodcutter explained to the man that he had been sawing for five hours non-stop and didn’t have time to take a break.
The man looked at the woodcutter and said “If you sharpen the saw, you would cut down the tree much faster.”
The woodcutter said “I don’t have time to sharpen the saw. Can’t you see that I am too busy.”
